Science from the sofa

‘Science from my Sofa’ - session 5

Here is Session 5 of ‘Science from my Sofa’. Today we are being Materials Scientists. These explore and test the properties of different materials to make different products and might work on developing new materials. All you need for today’s is some cornflour, which some of you may have hiding in the back of your kitchen cupboard. Miss Clarke

‘Science from my Sofa’. Session 4

Today we are being Chemists. Chemists look at different materials and do experiments to see how things react together. They might look at how mixing different things together might change the texture, colour or other properties. There are a huge range of chemistry careers – you could be creating new medicines, new face creams or even new fireworks! Some ideal things to have for this week’s science would be vinegar and bicarbonate of soda. Washing up liquid and food colouring might

Science from my Sofa - Session 3

We are now up to Session 3 of ‘Science from my Sofa’. Today we will become Structural Engineers. These engineers help design and construct buildings and other structures, ensuring that they are strong and safe. Maths and Science are important subjects to work hard at to become an engineer. Don’t forget to give me your photos and feedback. Miss Clarke

Science from my Sofa - Session 2

Welcome to Session 2 of ‘Science from my Sofa’. Today you will become a Sound Engineer. Sound Engineers are scientists who might help design loud speakers, rooms for concerts (to make sure the music sounds good) and all sorts of other sound related things. They might have to think about how the size, shape and material of a room or speaker will help the sound. Working hard at maths, science and computing would help you get into this job. Miss Clarke

Science from my Sofa - Session 1

Welcome to Session 1 of ‘Science from my Sofa’! These are mini science ideas and investigations for those of you who would like to participate at home each week, a bit like a weekly Science Club. Some are to introduce you to different careers in science, others just to practice investigating. If any of you do participate, I would love feedback and photos of what you have done. Today you will become a Forensic Scientist! Do you know what this means….? Miss Clarke
